  • Gray filter
  • ND64 | 6 stops
  • is mostly used to make flowing water and waterfalls look soft
  • to make busy street scenes look deserted

A gray filter, also known as an ND (Neutral Density) filter, reduces the intensity of the light falling into the camera. A high-quality NiSi grey filter reduces all wavelengths of light very evenly and thus prevents a color cast.
Depending on the optical density of the filter, a distinction is made between filter strengths from ND2 to ND 1000K. ND filters are often used to allow the photographer to use an open aperture or slow shutter speeds even in bright surroundings. For example, moving objects (e.g. water) can be depicted fluidly and moving objects can be eliminated, e.g. to depict busy street scenes devoid of people.
