The SIGMA I-Series lenses are based on the concept of "compact everyday lenses with outstanding image quality." The SIGMA 50mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is just that. It's perfect for a variety of photographic styles and features a high-quality optical design in a compact body. Designed from the ground up for mirrorless cameras, the SIGMA 50mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary features an SLD glass element and three aspherical lens elements that excel at correcting various types of aberrations for clear, high-resolution images.
The conflicting priorities of improving optical performance on the one hand and reducing size and weight on the other have been achieved by incorporating the latest optical design and state-of-the-art processing and production technologies at SIGMA's sole manufacturing facility in Aizu.
The 50mm focal length is particularly popular in portrait photography. For this reason, smooth bokeh, provided by the F2 aperture, was another focus in the design of the Lens. Overall, the lens achieved an optical design that provides smooth transitions from sharp to out-of-focus areas and minimizes reflections and ghosting in backlit situations. The precisely machined aluminum components not only give the barrel a sleek, elegant finish, but also guarantee outstanding durability, which enhances the quality of the entire product. The use of metal even in internal structures ensures smooth operation and exceptional robustness.
These high-precision components, manufactured with SIGMA's innovative metalworking technology, are also used in SIGMA's cine lenses for professional filmmakers. Attention to haptics and ergonomics makes working with the Lens a pleasure. For example, a small cover ring is installed between the focus and aperture rings to provide a good grip for the fingers when attaching and detaching the Lens.
