  • High-quality super telephoto lens from the G Master series
  • optical stabilization
  • Focal length: 600mm (with KB 900mm)
  • linear XD motor for extremely fast, precise and silent AF
  • Dust and splash-proof design
  • Full-frame FE mount

The premium lens with the strongest telephoto range of all Sony lenses is the lightest in its class worldwide and is characterized by powerful auto-focus, high resolution and beautiful bokeh.
With the new 600 mm F4 GM OSS super telephoto lens, Sony is expanding its renowned G Master full-frame lens series with a new flagship.

The new SEL-600F40GM represents the largest telephoto range of all Sony lenses. It is equipped with the latest optical and mechanical technologies and offers outstanding image quality thanks to its fast autofocus speed and high precision. Weighing only around 3,040 grams, it is currently the lightest in its class and has a high-quality design. Together with Sony's SEL-400F28 G Master telephoto lens, the new 600 millimeter lens offers professional sports, wildlife and news photographers more opportunities to capture subjects from long distances with extreme accuracy and detail.

"With the two new models introduced today, our growing range of E-mount lenses now includes 33 full-frame models and 51 lenses in total. The new SEL-600F40GM is the tenth model in our renowned G Master series and raises the bar for speed, portability and control in a super telephoto lens to a new level," said Yann Salmon Legagneur, Director of Product Marketing, Digital Imaging at Sony Europe. "The combination of the high 600mm telephoto focal length with continuous shooting at 20 photos per second and continuous autofocus calculation at 60 updates per second with the α9 or the extremely high resolution and speed with the α7R III, allows professional photographers to create images that were previously not possible."

Fast, precise and quiet autofocus
To make the most of the advanced autofocus systems of Sony's latest full-frame E-mount cameras, the new 600 millimeter F4 GM OSS Lens features two XD (extreme dynamic range) linear motors that drive the optical elements in the lens to provide fast, precise autofocus and reliable subject tracking. These motors are supported by specially developed motion algorithms to minimize delays and instabilities and control noise levels. This enables exceptionally fast, accurate and quiet autofocus to effortlessly capture dynamic, fast-moving athletes or wildlife.

GMaster: outstanding image quality and excellent bokeh
As a member of Sony's premium G Master series, the new wide aperture super telephoto lens offers an outstanding level of image quality and detail, maintaining contrast and resolution right into the corners of the frame. The unique optical design incorporates a large XA (extreme aspherical) and ED (extra-low dispersion) element that effectively suppresses all common telephoto lens aberrations, as well as three fluorite elements that help minimize chromatic aberrations and suppress color changes. The latest bokeh simulation technologies and the XA element are also used to control spherical aberration and achieve exquisite bokeh.

The circular shutter consists of eleven aperture blades. This makes the bokeh appear soft and harmonious. In addition, individual elements have been coated with Sony's original Nano AR coating to reduce unwanted reflections, ghosting and light effects.

The SEL-600F40GM is also compatible with Sony's 1.4x and 2.0x E-mount teleconverters and offers outstanding imaging performance with an even wider telephoto range and fast and precise autofocus.

Lightweight and high-quality design
Weighing only around 3,040 grams, the new super telephoto lens is currently the lightest in its class and offers a high degree of mobility and flexibility never before achieved with a lens of its type. Based on the technology of the SEL-400F28GM, the lightweight of the new 600 millimeter lens is achieved by using three fluorite elements, with a reduced number of elements at the front of the lens. In addition, magnesium alloy is used throughout to minimize weight and bulk.

The non-front-heavy design of the Lens has also been carried over from the SEL-400F28GM, reducing the moment of inertia for faster, more precise panning when shooting handheld or on a monopod.

Durability, reliability and control
To withstand the harsh conditions of sporting events or wildlife photography, the new SEL-600F40GM is made from a durable magnesium alloy and a strong, lightweight carbon fiber hood. The lens is also dust and moisture resistant and its front is coated with fluorine to repel dirt and fingerprints.

Some functions of the lens can be operated directly on the Body.
The SEL-600F40GM has a "Full Time DMF", which allows manual refocusing in an instant, and a focus ring with linear-response manual focus adjustment - for fine, responsive manual focus. There are also "focus hold buttons" at four different points, which can also be individually programmed. The focus can be easily set manually thanks to the focus ring.

The optical image stabilizer helps with dynamic sports shots in particular and ensures razor-sharp images. Three different setting options make working with the Lens even easier. "Mode 3", for example, is able to keep the focus more precisely on moving objects thanks to its intelligent algorithm. A function ring with selectable "Preset" and "Function" settings rounds off the ease of use of the professional lens.

The SEL-600F40GM is happy to work with filters with a diameter of 40.5 millimetres. The VF-DCPL1 circular polarizing filter, which can be easily positioned on the lens, is a perfect fit.

600 mm F4 G Master Super Telephoto Lens
Fast autofocus plus excellent G Master resolution and wonderful bokeh in a lightweight, well-balanced, mobile lens. Sony's original XA Lens and XD linear motor technology contribute to superior optical and mechanical performance, enabling dynamic, mesmerizing image capture even at long distances. Ideal for sports, news and nature photography.

XD motorsfor fast, precise and consistent AF
Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors ensure fast, precise autofocus and reliable tracking. They get the best out of modern cameras: even subjects in motion, e.g. when shooting sports or animals, remain in focus. A new control algorithm contributes to the fast, smooth positioning of a large focus group with minimal delay and vibration.

Large XA element improves image quality
The optical G Master precision design ensures extremely high contrast right up to the edges of the image. The newly developed large XA element (extremely aspherical) and three fluorite elements prevent aberrations that can occur with telephoto lenses. This achieves impressive resolution and detail across the entire image area.

Beautiful G Master bokeh
In addition to the new XA element with large aperture and extremely high surface precision, the individually calibrated lenses control the spherical aberration and thus ensure a perfect balance between resolution and the beautiful bokeh familiar from G Master. An 11-blade circular aperture further embellishes the smooth bokeh.

Outstanding clarity with fewer reflections
Sony's original nano-coating, flocking of key internal surfaces and other design refinements minimize internal reflections, so there are virtually no ghosting or flare effects to detract from image clarity. The image is razor sharp, even in difficult lighting conditions. (1. Nano coating/2. Glass/3. Transmitted light)

Low weight and optimum weight distribution for easy shooting
The SEL400F28GM technology provided the blueprint for the low weight of just 3040 grams and optimum weight distribution. The outstanding optical performance can therefore be fully utilized even when shooting hand-held or with a monopod. The compact and lightweight E-mount body provides the ideal center of gravity for precise, blur-free panning shots.

Protected against dust and splash water
The dust- and splash-proof design ensures the necessary reliability under challenging outdoor conditions.

Cylinder components made of sturdy magnesium alloy
The magnesium alloy on the outside of the lens cylinder, the tripod mount and the most important internal components offers two advantages when shooting in extreme environments and situations: it is robust and lightweight.

Sturdy, robust mounting design
Additional mounting screws have been added to the bracket and further optimizations have been made to ensure maximum stability and reliability for professional use.

Fluorine coating on the front element
The front lens element has a fluorine coating that protects it from water, oil and other contaminants and also makes it easier to wipe off if dirt or fingerprints should stick to the surface.

Optical SteadyShot with 3 modes
Optical image stabilization makes it easier to take sharp pictures with super telephoto focal lengths using hand-held operation. MODE 2 enables panning shots. MODE 3 is suitable for dynamic sports or nature shots and makes it easier to capture the subject thanks to the more stable viewfinder image. 5-axis image stabilization is available with compatible α series bodies.

Full-time DMF
When the FULL TIME DMF switch is set to ON, manual focusing is automatically activated by turning the focus ring, even when shooting in AF-C mode. This function can be used to correct the focus, for example if the autofocus is aimed at the wrong subject. The focus can also be precisely adjusted after the original autofocus setting if the AF function of the shutter release button (press halfway down) has been deactivated.
